The following is a general tentative schedule of events that make up Tom Wessel's workshop.
Monday
Check in 2-4 p.m. Tour of Medomak Retreat Center and Medomak Lake waterfront orientation. 5:30 Happy hour. 6:30 dinner
After dinner slide presentation: Reading the Forested Landscape.
Evening Campfire.
Tuesday
Field exploration of historic Medomak Camp property: formerly cultivated lands; historic stone walls; Native American ruins; abandoned beaver pond.
Evening slide presentation: Reading the Granite Landscape.
Wednesday
Field trip to Fernald's Neck-Nature Conservancy preserve extending into Lake Megunticook. Mature pine, hemlock, spruce forest. Afternoon Discussion: Introduction to Complex Systems and Natural History
Thursday
Day trip to Acadia National Park. Loop hike on South Ridge of Mt. Cadillac-examine myriad lichen communities. Lunch on the mountain. Afternoon hike through old growth forest along Hunter's Brook trail. Time permitting-explore geology and agricultural history of Great Head. Dinner on Mt. Desert Island.
Friday
Field trip to Megunticook Mtn. Explore 200+ year old trees surrounded by younger forest. Break into smaller groups and interpret landscape history. Afternoon Discussion: Increase in Diversity and Integration as a Complex System Self-Organizes.
Lobster dinner and evening Campfire.
Saturday
Closing ceremonies and final interpretive field trip-led by participants. One on one time with Tom Wessels.
