Come join us for a week of fiber-filled fun in beautiful mid-coast Maine. This is your chance to get away and focus on all of those wonderful projects you just haven't had the time to tackle. Whether you knit, crochet, spin, felt, dye, or weave, or if you've always wanted to learn how, this is the place for you! Enjoy the company of fellow fiber enthusiasts while you spin by the fireplace or knit in rocking chairs on the porch of our lodge. Bring along a small project for a pontoon cruise around the pine-edged lake.
If you're looking to start a new project or purchase some Maine fiber products, you're in luck. Local vendors and artists will set up shop and sell their wares in our lodge. We are happy to provide space for participants to sell their own products to the group as well.
Under the patient guidance of lead instructor Bill Huntington, owner of Hope Spinnery, you will have the opportunity to learn from his classes in Choosing the Right Yarn, Knitting in the Round, Fair Isle Knitting, Gauge & Fit, Design, and Steeking.
Demetrio Bautista Lazo, a renowned dyer and weaver from Oaxaca, Mexico will be leading sessions in natural dyeing using indigo, chamomile, and cochineal.
Daniel Yuhas, obsessed knitter, teacher, and fiber artist, will be teaching a "Design Your Own Faroese Shawl" class along with another one of his unique patterns, which you can find on his online shop at Molting Yeti.
Dana Fadel, an intern at the Portland Fiber Gallery in Portland, ME, will be teaching classes in rigid-heddle weaving.
Rachel Bingham is an employee at the Portland Fiber Gallery and will be teaching drop spindle classes, wheel spinning, nuno felting, and needle felting.
Rose Ann Hunter and Leslie Wind, artists from Newburyport and Rockport, MA, will be teaching classes in fiber & metal jewelry making.
Casey Ryder, director at the Medomak Retreat Center, will be teaching tri-loom weaving and felted soap making.
As we value the interests of our participants, classes and programming will depend partly on what they are hoping to learn. The following are examples of classes that we have had in the past and classes we hope to include this year:
*spinning *rigid heddle weaving *tri-loom weaving *pattern reading *needle point and nuno felting *fiber preparation *natural dyeing *understanding knitting structure *colorwork *design *grafting *circular knitting *magic loop knitting *socks *button holes *cables & lace *steeking *fixing mistakes
In addition to classes & workshops, we will be taking field trips to these local farms, and studios...
Wind-Powered Hope Spinnery, owned and operated by our very own Bill Huntington. Bill will take us on a tour of the spinnery and then we'll have a chance to check out his studio space and wonderful wind-spun yarns!
Nanne Kennedy is the owner of Medowcroft Farm in Washington, Maine and creator of SEACOLORS, a line of yarn that is dyed naturally in solar bins using sea water. Nan will take us on a tour of her farm for an "on the hoof" experience--a chance to see where all fiber arts begin...on the animal!
We will also be visiting Katharine Cobey, a world renowned fiber artist, at her studio in Cushing, Maine. Listen as she describes her experiences and shares techniques she uses to create her one of a kind pieces.

Hosted at our Retreat Center, Medomak's guests enjoy beautiful pine and oak woods, a sparkling clear lake just down the hill, fields of ripe blueberries, and simple, rustic, yet comfortable cabins complete with full bath. Start your day off with an energizing yoga class or a morning walk. You may also choose to have a relaxing afternoon massage by our licensed masseuse! Ohe learning spaces vary from rooms in our historic lodge, to an outdoor amphitheater; from rocking chairs on our porch to seating around an outdoor campfire. Meals that will be dreamt about for months are served family-style in our dining hall or outside at picnic tables on the front lawn. Our aim is to make you feel at home.
Tuition is all inclusive of food, lodging, instruction, field trips, and use of our lakefront facilities. Any extra costs may include personal purchases of yarn, fiber, etc. from our local vendors or a massage from our licensed therapist. For tuition prices, click the registration button at the top of the page or call us toll free at 866-633-6625.
We offer a discount to groups of five or six. The fifth person comes for free and the sixth person gets half price tuition! Or you can split the difference amongst yourselves. Groups taking advantage of this discount will share a dorm style cabin complete with full bath.

"We had a fabulous week at Medomak. The rain never dampened our spirits as we shared good times with all the other families. Our daughters made several new friends and have had a blast! Especially fishing with George. Everyone on staff gives more than 100% of themselves."
